Welcome to Rijksfinanciën.nl. This website has been created to provide more transparency about central government’s revenue and expenditure. It aims to provide a clearer picture of the national budget and government spending, by using open data from the various ministries and presenting it visually. This site is under development. We want it to become a modern, interactive site that enables everyone to access open data from central government. The site is constantly changing; more open data and features will be added in the course of the year. If you have any questions or would like more information, click ‘Contact’ at the bottom of this page.
This site enables you to:
- View a breakdown of revenue and expenditure in each budget chapter;
- Compare this year’s figures with those from previous years, compare actual spending with the original budget, and see which policy areas are receiving more money or less money;
- See what grants have been awarded.
At the top of this page is the main diagram: the doughnut. Each chapter of the national budget is shown in a different colour. Each segment represents one budget chapter. The size of the segment shows how much of the total budget it receives. If you click on a segment, a breakdown of the budget chapter concerned appears. For more information on the national budget, click ‘Explanation of budget’ at the top of the page.
All the data presented here is taken from budgets, budget memorandums and annual reports already published. These documents (in Dutch) are available at: http://www.rijksbegroting.nl. If you’re interested in central government’s broader budgetary policy, you can find more information (in Dutch) at http://www.rijksbegroting.nl, including in the 2017 Budget Memorandum.
